Konstantinos Tzianetas passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2024. Born on May 10, 1943 in Aniada, Greece. Konstantinos was also known as Dino to all his family and friends. He was the son of Triantafyllos Tzianeta and Giannoula (daughter of Spiros Koutrouba) and brother of Spiros and Nikos.
He completed his military training in the Air Force in Greece and was known for his expertise in electrical engineering. He moved to Canada for a better tomorrow and married Maria Gougoulias in Toronto at St. Demetrios Church. He and Maria raised four children Ioanna, Terry, Roula and Stefano. He was known for his great passion for cooking as he learned to cook from an early age in his father’s restaurant in Larissa Greece. He was an amazing cook, making everything from scratch and remembers fondly how he learned the craft of cooking from his mother and father. He enjoyed going back home to visit his village and took his family back when they were young and travelled all of Greece to help them learn about their heritage. He worked many hard labour jobs when he arrived in Canada to support his family. He started by working in a lead/iron factory and this job. He was passionate about education, and he enrolled in a program to study electrical engineering. He proceeded to use his skills in maintenance and engineering in the Toronto French School where he was liked by all for ensuring the school was well maintained. He loved gardening and would spend hours perfecting his vegetable garden each summer. One summer he embarrassed his children by ordering a few tonnes of manure to use for his garden. To his kids surprise the garden manure was on their front driveway and could be smelled for blocks away. While his kids were embarrassed, the neighbours all loved him for it, as he shared it with the block and the vegetable gardens were amazing for many years. He gave endlessly to people who needed help. He was a great handyman and able to pull together any household repair required.
Dino is survived by his children Ioanna Mantas (husband Nick Mantas), Terry Tzianetas, Roula Vatousis (husband Konstantinos Vatousis), and Stefano Tzianetas (wife Monika). He loved his grandchildren and over the past few years while his health declined, he did not have the ability to do as much for them as he always wished he could. He would always speak about them and whenever people came over he would show photos from his wallet. His grandchildren Irene Mantas, Athanasios Mantas and Antonios Vatousis were always in his heart each day. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity and will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:00 am in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Thorncliffe. Friends and family are invited to gather in honor of Konstantino’s memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived.
May Konstantinos rest in peace, forever remembered in our hearts.
