In memory of

Klaus Dieter Tenter

November 10, 1943 -  May 11, 2024

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Klaus Tenter (1943-2024) on May 11, with family by his side. Klaus is survived by his wife of 30 years, Liz (Addison); children, Jason and Nicole; brother, Jochen; sister, Christel; brothers- and sister-in-law, Alfons, Keith and Sandy; and nephews, Thomas and Stephan.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lore and Dr. Hermann Tenter, his brother’s -in-law Karl-Wilhelm and John and his dog Eloise.

Born in Poland and raised in Germany, Klaus came to Canada to work at Montreal’s Expo 67 and decided to stay. Educated and experienced in hotel management, he began his career in Toronto at The King Edward and Sheraton hotels, and quickly rose through the ranks. In 1976, Klaus joined Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and was General Manager in Calgary, California, and Toronto (where he was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Yorkville”). A man of real empathy and presence, Klaus was the epitome of a great hotelier, and a widely respected colleague and mentor as well.

Klaus lived his life with integrity and passion. Among his many interests were fine dining, listening to classical music, and collecting good wines. He and Liz traveled extensively. After retirement, they spent most of their winters in Longboat Key, Florida.

Klaus had a big, warm smile and mischievous sense of humour, and loved making people laugh with his stories and jokes. Loyal and kind-hearted, he stayed connected with a vast network of friends and colleagues. His open, generous, loving nature touched and enhanced many lives.

Please join us on May 30 at 1:30 p.m. at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York, to celebrate the well-lived life of Klaus Tenter. All who knew Klaus are welcome.

Klaus was such a great leader to work with. He recruited me to Four Seasons and provided me with a great experience and was instrumental in getting me down to Los Angeles where I started my family. Klaus lived life to the fullest and we are all better for having known him. RIP Boss.

Tim and I are so saddened by this news. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family Liz. Klaus was a kind and supportive friend to us and to our children. He always looked on the bright side of life with a twinkle in his eye. Warm hospitality ran through his blood and his wisdom and experience made him a great mentor. He will be greatly missed by us - and by all who knew him in the industry he loved. Rest in peace dear friend.
