With great sadness, the family of KIYOSHI NONOMURA announce that Kiyo passed away peacefully, with his wife at his side, at Brampton Civic Hospital on Tuesday August 2, 2022.
Kiyo was born in Vancouver, B.C. and moved to the Lethbridge, AB area in 1942. He married Kim in 1954 and they were happily married for 68 years. They moved to Burnaby, B.C. in 1966 and to the Greater Toronto Area in 1969 – first to Etobicoke and then to Rosedale Village in Brampton in 1999.
Family was his number one priority and he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Kiyo started as a shipper receiver in Lethbridge and worked his way up to Vice President of Purchasing for an automotive aftermarket distributor in Toronto. He was well respected in the industry and was known as a shrewd but fair negotiator. His role allowed him to travel to many places around the world, and Kim was often able to accompany him.
He was a passionate gardener, and Kim & Kiyo won the Etobicoke Garden Award three times. Kiyo’s love of the outdoors is carried on by his sons through interests they shared with their Dad (photography and fly fishing). He also enjoyed doing stained glass and traveling (particularly with long-time best friends Kaz & Tosh Kanashiro), and he was always busy helping neighbours in whatever way he could.
Cherishing his memory and remembering him always are his loving wife, Kimiye “Kim”, his sons Kent and Kevin (Denise) and his grandchildren David (Tracy), Michael, and Robert. He will be missed by his sister Audrey Nishikawa and also by his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Misao “Mary” and Shuji “Sam”, his brother George, sister-in-law Hats, and brother-in-law Harold Nishikawa.
A Celebration of Kiyo’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 (see the Funeral Details for further information). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
Info: Please join the family in celebrating Kiyo’s life by sharing the stories and memories you have of Kiyo. A light luncheon will be served throughout the informal drop-in gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. At the entrance of Rosedale Village, inform the gate staff that you are attending the Celebration of Life for Kiyo Nonomura.
