Kit Yung So

October 9, 1952 -  September 5, 2021

A smart, resourceful, brave and considerate lady, Kit Yung So’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Kit passed away on September 5, 2021 at the age of 68 after a few courageous battles with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honour her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Definitely not a quitter, she blazed the trail for her family. Kit overcame many obstacles to come to Canada from China with the hope of making a better life for herself, her parents, her siblings and her future generations.

She was born to Chan Kim Wing and Ou San Mei in Guangzhou, China. She had an older brother, Qixian; a younger brother, Kai Yiu; a younger sister, Jie Qun; and a second younger brother, Kai Woon.

Kit was a caring wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend. She married her beloved husband, Yip Hung So, in Toronto, Canada. They had 2 sons: Johnny and Peter. They also cared for their nephews, David and Alan, like their own boys when they were young. Her grandchildren, Calvin, Clarissa, Katelyn, Megan, Morgan, Dylan and Peyton, brought her a lot of joy. She selflessly and lovingly gave her time to care for them in her retirement.

She delighted in travel and usually took at least one trip every year. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family such as “Joo Cheung Go” and homemade dumplings with chives from her carefully nurtured garden. A dextrous seamstress, she made clothes for a living for a time as well as some clothes for herself and her family. She worked relentlessly, owning and running a Chinese restaurant, Golden Tree, with her husband. Although she was frugal herself, she was always generous with her time and money with others.
