In memory of

Kin Man Cheung

July 23, 1958 -  December 15, 2024

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Ricky Kin Man Cheung (張健民), into the Lord's presence.

Ricky was born in Hong Kong on July 23, 1958 and passed away in Toronto on December 15, 2024 at the age of 66. He is survived by his loving wife Joanna and their two children, Janice and Dominic.

He grew up in Hong Kong and attended St. Joseph's College during his secondary school years. He attained a Bachelor of Commerce degree and CPA (Australia) qualification, and started his career as an accountant at Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler (currently known as KPMG). Subsequently, he entered the hospitality industry and became a well-respected veteran in the industry. Before his retirement, he took up the role as owners' representative and consultant for Sun Hung Kai Properties, one of the largest conglomerates in Asia.

Ricky was an avid golfer, swimmer and tennis player, as well as a passionate traveler. His kindness, warmth and compassion touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He inspired us with his love for life and we are all better off for having known and loved him for all these years. We all have so many great stories and memories that we will talk about, laugh about and live with always. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Ricky was a dear friend, brother, for over 50 years. We appreciate his kindness and brotherly love. Not only was he a high achiever, he was a dependable friend, a loving husband, a caring father and a golfing buddy that I learned valuable life lessons from. We are defined by the choices we make and Ricky to experience life positively, with joy and respect,

In golf, he was very consistent with his shots and had a graceful swing (similar to how he handled situatons in life, good or bad) - he always stood firm (unwavering), kept a nice posture, maintained a good grip (of the club and life) + a nice tempo (not too fast not too slow), even keeled and did not seem to be affected by his emotions despite the circumstances. Focus determines our direction. Ricky was focused, hit it nice and straight. He always says: 最緊要直, nice and safe on the fairway, 穩陣.

In golf, we must play as the ball lies, we can't change the cirumstances. So even after a bad shot or two, Ricky always says: 冇所謂, 係咁架啦. 咪下一球打好D. He is right. No need to get upset but instead focus on the next shot, next hole or the next game. There are 18 holes. A few good or bad shots don't make or break the game.
不急不躁, 不慌不忙,冇架子, 不拘泥於一些無謂的小節 - this was Ricky's way and reminded me how important this attitude is in life. Isn't attitude everything? With a great posture but poor attitude, one won't have a good round. I began to learn ways to manage my emotions, good or bad.

In fact golf is a funny game,

Finally, every time we played, we took the time to enjoy the course, the sunshine and its beautiful surroundings. We never compared scores, but merely shook hands, pat each other on the back and smiled because we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. From this day forward, I will remember the times we had when I step out to this course again. The world is defintely not better without you. But it was a joy knowing you, and I am thankful for our times together, with you and your family and the friendship we shared. As Christians, we have the assurance of meeting again in heaven, until then, I will continue to enjoy this process and bear in mind the life lessons I learned from you. Winston.

Today far away from you I make the "yesterday" you gave me into a "boat of memory '. Then I let the boat float on my lake in my heart.
