In memory of

Kim Nui Lam 林李檢女太夫人

September 3, 1926 -  August 28, 2024

Our dearest Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on August 28, after a brief illness, just days shy of her 98th birthday.

Born in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China, Mom fled the Communist Chinese regime in the 1950s and sought a better life in British Hong Kong. Alongside her were our Dad, Shek On, and their daughter, Judy, as well as their eldest son, Ken. In Hong Kong, our family grew with the births of younger sons, Frank and Andy.

In December 1967, with the much-appreciated help from sister Judy, the family immigrated to Toronto. There, Mom found work as a seamstress. After the premature passing of our Dad from cancer at age 50, Mom single-handedly raised the three boys, shaping them into the responsible and successful men they are today. Her powerful work ethic, along with her all-consuming devotion and love for us, were both inspiring and unforgettable.

Mom leaves behind her daughter Judy (and son-in-law Lin) and her three grandchildren: Abby (and her husband David), Brian (and his wife Michelle), and Calvin (and his wife Elizabeth), along with five great-grandchildren: Kevin, Isaiah, Eli, Joshua, and Hannah.

She is also survived by her eldest son Ken (and daughter-in-law Donna), and her three grandchildren: Alan, Karen, and Jeffrey (and his wife Angie), as well as two great-grandchildren, Ava and Soraya.

Her second son Frank (and daughter-in-law Mei), and her two grandchildren: Kimberly (and her husband Andrew) and Jonathan (and his wife Grace), along with two great-grandchildren, Lyna and Alicia, also mourn her passing.

Mom is further survived by her third son Andy (and daughter-in-law Sharon).

She was predeceased by her older brothers, Wah On Lee and Yuk Boa Lee.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a small donation be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto.

Mom lived a long life filled with struggle, deprivation, and tragedy. Yet, by her example, she showed that a life devoid of luxuries or material wealth can still be beautiful and inspiring.

To honor her memory, if you have any photographs or videos that you would like to share, please send them to stranjah21@gmail.com. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Lam and Quan’s families,

Although we never met Mrs. Lam but through the lives of your family members, we can see Mrs. Lam had given the best of hers to her children and her descendants. From the picture, we can see she was a very kind lady and she was full of joy! May God comfort and bless your hearts!

Love,
Raymond, Kang, Nathan and Isabelle
