It is with sadness we announce our father, Ki-Bok Park has passed away on April 12, 2023. He was a devoted family man to his wife, Yong-Ja Park and three children (Erica, Edward and Kathy) and a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren (Jamie, Justin and Noah). We admire his resilience to survive war, loss of family and his courage to journey from North Korea to South Korea, then to Germany and finally to Canada. We admire his work ethic to provide a great life for his family. Here in Canada, he thrived as a new immigrant, he met and married our mother Yong- Ja. My dad worked as a taxi driver, while Yong Ja worked as a nurse and they eventually saved enough to buy a variety store. The work involved long hours and many challenges, but my dad still found the energy to create great experiences for our family such as ski trips, vacations to Florida and several other family outings. During his retirement, his life was full of family, friends, travel and of course… golf. We are thankful to our mother who took such beautiful care of him while he battled his illnesses. In his final months, the family rallied to support him. Not a single day went by without someone by his bedside. He knew he was loved. We will miss you dad.

2023년 4월 12일자로 사랑하는 저희 아버지 故박기복 님께서 소천하셨다는 슬픈 소식을 전해드립니다.

아버지께서는 아내 박영자 님과 세 자녀(에리카, 에드워드, 캐시)를 위해 한평생 헌신해 오셨으며, 세 명의 손주들(제이미, 저스틴, 노아)에게는 한없이 자애로운 할아버지셨습니다. 전쟁통에 가족을 잃고도 낙심하지 않고 꿋꿋하게 북한에서 남한으로, 이어서 독일을 거쳐 이곳 캐나다에 정착해 삶의 터전을 일구신 아버지께서는 근면성실함을 바탕으로 아내와 아이들이 평안한 삶을 누릴 수 있도록 최선을 다하셨습니다. 이민자로서 이 땅을 딛고 힘차게 일어서신 아버지는 이곳에서 저희 어머니를 만나 결혼하시고, 처음에는 각자 택시 기사와 간호사로 일하셨습니다. 돈을 모아 버라이어티 스토어를 인수하신 두 분은 매일매일의 일상이 길고도 고되었을텐데도 저희를 위해 다시 또 힘을 내어 스키장에도 가고 플로리다에 놀러도 가는 등 행복한 추억을 많이도 만들어 주셨습니다. 은퇴 후 아버지의 삶은 온통 가족과 친구, 여행과 교회 그리고 물론 골프로 풍성히 채워졌습니다.

병마와 싸우시던 아버지를 옆에서 사랑으로 한결같이 보살피신 어머니께 온맘을 다해 감사드립니다. 지난 몇 달 동안 가족 구성원 모두가 한마음으로 아버지를 위해 함께했기에, 아버지 옆에 가족 누군가가 없는 날이 단 하루도 없었고, 아버지께서는 그렇게 가족들의 사랑으로 에워싸여 세상을 떠나셨습니다.

사랑하는 아버지, 벌써부터 보고싶고 그립습니다.
