It is with great sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Khampeng Phaphonsomkham, who left us peacefully on March 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on February 12, 1935, in Laos, Khampeng lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Nang, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Khampeng's journey to Canada in 1980 was driven by his strong desire to create a better life for his wife, Nang, and their seven children. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, and his hardworking nature and commitment to providing for them were evident throughout his life. His love for the outdoors and nature led him to find peace and fulfillment in Minden, Ontario. He found joy in riding his ATV and exploring the land he had worked so hard to make his own. He cherished every moment spent in the woods, and his passion for building huts was a reflection of his hands-on, determined spirit.
Khampeng’s family was his pride and joy. He adored his children, Sivilay (Bonnie), with grandchildren Philip, Jennifer, Michael, Jason and Samantha (and great-grandchildren Dylan, Nikolas, and Jackson); Samay (Kim), with grandchildren Ashly and Emily; Sothsay (Hung), with grandchildren Ryan and Julie; Phayvanh (MiYoung); Khanthong (Joy), with grandchildren Brandon, Matthew, and Ian; Khongmy (Connie); and Khamla (Alex).
Khampeng’s love for his children and grandchildren was boundless. He often spoke to them about the value of education, believing it was the key to success. His wisdom and guidance left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he could be stubborn at times, his intensions were always driven by a deep love and desire to ensure the well-being and future of his family.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 13th at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre at 1:00PM to honor Khampeng’s life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone for their support and love during this difficult time. Khampeng will be deeply missed, but his spirit and love will live on in the hearts of his family forever.
In the great beyond, we can only imagine Khampeng forever riding his ATV through the woods of Minden, with a grin on his face and the wind in his hair. He most likely has even started building his dream hut, one that could survive any storm and stand proudly for all eternity, surrounded by the beauty of the woods he loved so much.
May he rest in peace.
