In memory of

Kenneth Ross McClymont

November 13, 1924 -  May 30, 2024

In his 100th year, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, our Dad, passed away peacefully at Bethell Hospice, May 30, 2024.
Born in Toronto on November 13, 1924, he grew up in a modest house with central coal-fired heating along with his sister and parents. He followed in his father’s footsteps as an Electrical Engineer, graduating from The University of Toronto with a degree in Applied Science & Engineering in 1947.
He was introduced to our mom by his close friend at a young people’s united church social group and they married in 1949 and had a loving relationship that spanned 47 years.
Upon graduation he was employed by Ontario Hydro and spent the next 35 years building a very successful and satisfying career.
Born with an adventurous spirit, he continued to find new challenges throughout his life; he built a beautiful family cottage on Kawagama Lake in his 50's; travelled to Costa Rica, Jordan and Ethopia upon his retirement; took flying lessons in his 60's; bought a sailboat in his 70's, and never shied away from technology - owning & operating the latest computers, tablets, phones and watches up until the end.
He provided us with a life full of enriching experiences & adventures – as a young family he drove us across Canada for our summer vacations, introduced us to beautiful northern Ontario on many camping trips and taught us the finer skills of water-skiing, downhill skiing and sailing.
After our mother passed away in 1996, he met and married a lovely Scottish woman and Dad had an additional 10 years of travel & companionship until her passing in 2014.
He still had some room for adventure and spent time up north in his early 90’s golfing and enjoying nature.
His final months were fraught with health challenges but he never complained about pain or suffering and retained his independent spirit up to his final days.
During this time, he received exceptional and loving care from Sewrattie who sang to him nightly, Chandra & Aneesha who helped him with the challenges of daily living & many others who helped him at Greenway Retirement Home & Bethell Hospice. His end of life journey was so much sweeter for their presence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethell Hospice Foundation (https://bethellhospice.org). A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A poem of Glory for Dad:
“Center of all Centres, core of cores,
Almond self-enclosed, and growing sweet-
all this universe, to the furthest stars
All beyond them, is your flesh, your fruit.
Now you feel how nothing clings to you;
your vast shell reaches into endless space,
and there the rich, thick fluids rise and flow.
Illiuminated in your infinite peace,
a billion stars go spinning through the night,
blazing high above your head.
But in you is the presence that
Will be, when all the stars are dead.”
Rainer Maria Rilke
Rest in Peace Dad – we love you!

Andy Hubert (Retired Hydro college from 1960's.)

Entered August 19, 2024 from North York

I considered myself lucky as a recent UofT graduate to get attached to Ken.
He was an ideal supervisor: knowledgeable, clear and strict with his directions. I left Hydro for a few years and returned, asking to get reassigned to my KRM, my former supervisor.

Fond memories of this brilliant engineer.

Viviano Carvalho (Colleague at Ontario Hydro)

Ken directed Ontario Hydro’s plans for the major expansion Ontario Power Transmission Grid. This was from the 1960’s until the decline with the Arab oil embargo of the 1980’s.
I recall that his counsel was sought even on his last day at work before retiring.
In the 90’s retired System Planners met annually to enjoy each other’s company. Thus I was able to enjoy seeing Ken over the years.

Andy Poray (My boss at Ontario Hydro)

Entered August 20, 2024 from Mississauga

Ken offered me numerous opportunities challenges n Transmission System Planning Dept. of the Planning Division during the period April 1981 through to the time when Ontario Hydro was partitioned into the successor companies around 2000. Ken was always supportive in his direction but never shy of proposing directions for improvement. He had a great sense of humour, and I was my great privilege to work with him and to be a member of his team.
Rest in peace Ken.
