In memory of

Kenneth K. Irizawa

May 8, 1927 -  October 19, 2024

Ken Irizawa passed away on Saturday October 19th, 2024, in his 98th year, surrounded by his loving family. Ken moved to The Roxborough in July 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed the various activities that the facility provides – residents’ and food committees, choral group, Fit Minds, cooking demonstrations and concerts.

Ken was born in Sapperton, British Columbia. After moving to Ontario, Ken attended and graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Fisheries Biology. Ken worked for Lands and Forest (later became the Ministry of Natural Resources) from 1954 to his retirement in 1987. He lived in many communities during his working life – Pembroke, Lindsay, Toronto, Kenora, Thunder Bay, Mississauga, Huntsville and Newmarket.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Ets, his three daughters, Terumi (Rick), Kiyomi (Jim) and Miyoshi (Scott), three grandchildren, Jennifer (John), Kevin and Benten and a great-grandson, Ezra. Ken is also survived by his sister, Susan (Sam), several nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Yoshizo and Ayako, his brother, Yoshiyuki and his sister, Mitsue.

Ken and Ets recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in July.

Ken loved to curl, sing, tend to his vegetable garden and try new restaurants. Ken's life was marked by his dedication to his work, his love for his family, his generosity and his sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ken was always up for a good time and conversation especially about the Blue Jay's. We met throughout the years to enjoy Benten's achievements in school & dance. He will be missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his company. RIP Ken.

Our condolences to Ets, Terumi, Kiyomi and Miyoshi, Aunt Susan and Uncle Sam and all of the Irizawa family.
A kinder, nicer cheerful man you'll not find.
Any occasion that we attended where Ken and Ets were in attendance, they always came over to talk and catch up.
Besides longevity, Ken was blessed with a sharp mind very positive demeanor.
He will certainly be missed.

We always enjoyed our time spent in Ken's company, especially at our daughters weddings.

Ken was a kind and friendly man who attended our church regularly. He and Ets were always pitching in to help at various fundraisers. They seemed to enjoy migrating to the dessert room to help out for community dinners and they enjoyed spoiling our sons with extra desserts!

Years later, I (Tenley) realized Ken went to U of T and later worked with one of my uncles in the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Our sincere condolences for your family’s loss.
