Kenneth John 'Ken' Surowiec

September 18, 1942 -  December 8, 2024

KENNETH (KEN) SUROWIEC
In Loving Memory (September 18, 1942 – December 8, 2024)

Surrounded by the love of his family, Ken died peacefully on December 8, 2024 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice at the age of 82. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Marlene, their children Laura (Sébastien LeBlanc) and Karen (Jack Zadzilko), and their beloved granddaughter Amélie. Ken will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours.
Ken was a dedicated elementary school teacher with the Toronto Board of Education for 34 years. He was an enthusiastic coach for many school teams and was most proud of his 1990 ‘’All Ontario Champions’’ girls basketball team at Carleton Village.
He was an avid fisherman and a nature and animal lover who loved to spend time at his Cottage with his family and friends. He loved to sit on the deck overlooking Lake Dalrymple with a rum and coke in his hand, listening to his favorite music blaring from his boombox for all to hear.
Ken will always be remembered for his lively sense of humour, warmth and friendliness to all. He loved and cared deeply for his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at the Simple Alternative Funeral Centre in Mississauga at 1535 South Gateway Road. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 12:00 pm. Please join us for a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made in Ken’s name to the Dorothy Ley Hospice or to the charity of your choice.

‘’We're here for a good time
Not a long time
So have a good time
The sun can't shine every day’’

With heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mavrogiannis, all the staff and the many volunteers at the Dorothy Ley Hospice for the compassionate care given to Ken and his family.

The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the caregivers for all the loving care given to Ken and the support provided to his family at home.

Ken was an incredible person. I feel so grateful that over the years I got to spend so much time with both him and his wonderful family at the cottage. I have so many amazing memories of fishing with him, long chats on the deck, throwing the football in the lake, and playing endless card games of “Oh Hell” all summer long. Ken was very knowledgeable with tools and repairs and I learned so much from him. I would always find him in his shed fixing something and he was a great teacher and mentor to me. He also taught me so much about fishing and boating and I will miss our fishing trips. Ken brought joy to everyone he was around and he will be deeply missed by me and everyone he touched.

Ken lit up a room with his smile and his presence. He really made everyone feel special. I would describe him as the happiest person I've met. He was full of fun, always ready to entertain and always ready with a "Polish" joke.

My parents had many good times with Ken and Marlene. The fun and laughter was endless as I'm sure were the Rum & Cokes .

We will miss him dearly.
Our deepest condolences to you Marlene as well as Laura, Karen and their families.

You knew when Ken was in a room, he was the life of the party, his energetic personality, jokes and his infectious laugh was felt by all. I will never forget how he stood up for me and said a beautiful speech on my wedding day. When my children were born he always entertained them. Ken has been so kind to me and my family over the years. He will be sadly missed by all. May he rest in eternal peace. Our condolences to my loving friend Laura, Sebastien, Amelie and the Surowiec Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. ♥️🙏

I have known Ken since I was a very young girl. I grew up in the Surowiec residence, always hanging out with my best friend Laura . Ken made all my visits so fun and memorable. He always had a new joke to tell me , a game to play and came up with fun and creative ways to keep us all entertained. He was the epitome of the FUN DAD . I will forever be grateful that my children had the opportunity to meet and know and love Ken the way I did when I was younger ! He treated them like his own grandchildren and I am thankful for all the wonderful memories we have of Ken and the family up at the cottage. My girls couldn’t wait to see what Ken had up his sleeves for them. We all loved him and he will be missed ! My thoughts and prayers go out to Marlene, Laura ,Karen, Amelie and Sebastian .Rest in peace Ken 🙏
