Ken Mallett

September 19, 1938 -  October 25, 2023

Ken Mallett, a cherished resident of Toronto, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023, at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving children, Tania Pressdee (Markus), and Jason Mallett (Dawn), and his adored grandchildren, Jamie, Natasha, Rylan, and Kiera.

Ken's life was a tapestry of captivating stories and rich experiences. Born in Etobicoke on September 19, 1938, he regaled friends and family with tales of his youthful days at St. Leo's, where he thrived as a student. He fondly recounted helping his mother craft awnings and shared stories of his father's work at the old Goodyear Tire factory.

Ken's gift for storytelling blossomed into a lifelong career dedicated to sharing the stories of others. He embarked on a remarkable 30+ year journey as a newspaper reporter and television news writer/producer. His passion for journalism led him to distant shores, spending a decade as a foreign correspondent in London, England, working for esteemed publications like the Sydney Morning Herald and the Toronto Star. Ken then transitioned to the world of television news, serving as a writer/producer for the CBC and eventually rising to the position of Director of News and Current Affairs for Global Television. Even in his later years, Ken's enthusiasm for storytelling remained unwavering, as he contributed articles about local businesses to Leaside Life.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Ken was known for his love of culinary arts. He delighted in planning and hosting memorable dinner parties, sourcing the finest ingredients from St. Lawrence Market, where he was a familiar face among the vendors. When not in the vibrant heart of Toronto, Ken sought solace and serenity at the beautiful and majestic Buck Lake.

In true Ken fashion, there will be no formal services or extravagant ceremonies. Instead, he will be cremated and laid to rest at his beloved Buck Lake, where he found peace and inspiration.
Ken’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and the stories he told will continue to resonate in the lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of passion, adventure, and warm hospitality, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of being a part of his remarkable journey.
