In memory of

Kean Azarshahi

August 12, 1995 -  August 7, 2019

Kean Azarshahi, the son of Ata and Holly Azarshahi, was born in Newport Beach, California on August 12, 1995. He passed away on August 7th, 2019, just days short of his 24th birthday. Kean was a kind hearted, caring and loving individual with an infectious laugh. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed playing backgammon and poker with his uncle Tony, grandfather and his dad. He was a huge sports fan. Kean was a long-time fan of the Steelers, Lakers and the Raptors. He brightened every room that he entered.

While he lived in Europe Kean travelled the world extensively. Spain and Italy were his favorite countries, and he volunteered to go and help build the foundations of a school in Tanzania, Africa. He was also identified as "gifted" while attending school in California. He attended the American School of the Hague in the Netherlands from grades 7 to 12, where he obtained his IB diploma. During this time, he was an active member of the school community. He was the starting point guard of the varsity basketball team, Chosen as the MVP of the Northwestern European Council of International Schools (NECIS), played varsity baseball and made many lasting friendships during this period. His journey then took him to Vancouver where he studied business at the University of British Columbia, Sauder Business School. He moved to Vaughan, Ontario in 2016 to be closer to family, where he obtained certificates to become a counselor. He also wrote many rap songs in the hopes of releasing an album that he named "Expectations".

Kean is survived by his parents, Ata and Holly, and his sister Sara. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Hooshang and Massi Khakshoorian, and his paternal grandmother Pooran Azarshahi. He is also survived by his uncle Tony Khakshoorian, his uncle Afshar Azarshahi, his aunt Gita Mclean, and cousins Sean, Tessa, Elyka, and Nima, who will all miss him greatly. His friends and family will forever cherish his memory.

We just heard the terrible news and both of us cried. I can see the loss and devastation of the parents and grand parents. May God give all relatives enough strength to bear this tragedy. We will come to see you on Monday.

I’m so sorry for your devastating loss. Although, I never met Kean, the stories Ata told of him were full of love, joy, pride and laughter. The stories made Kean real to us and painted a picture of what an incredibly special person he was. The smile on Ata’s face while telling the stories told us of a father’s love. Kean was blessed with family during his life, and I believe you will be blessed with his spirit forever.

I love you Kean! You were, and always will be, one of the best guys I have ever had the pleasure to know. You always know how to make me smile when we talked and spent time together. Thank you for being in my life, thank you for always taking my calls when I wanted to talk, and thank you for being my cousin.

Ata Jan, Holly Jan, Sara Jan, this world lost one of the purest souls when Kean left. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you, and that I love you three with all my heart. I am so sorry for your loss.
