Kathy,
My heart is squeezed into a ball of lead in my chest. Losing you at this young age was something I never thought even possible. The day you were born I woke up to find Oma and Opa in our kitchen, instead of Mom and Dad. Oma smiled down at me and said 'you have a new baby sister'. I knew already your name would be Kathleen. It was a sunny June day, and when my kindergarten class was done, I skipped all the way home, feeling like the world was shinier than before and I was the luckiest little girl in the world - I had a baby sister!
You have never been out of my heart and my thoughts since that day. Six years age difference was a big gap - when you were old enough to read, I was old enough to discover I liked boys. But we were sisters and I cared about you then and and I care about you now, and if I had had the power to change your life, I would have done it.
These last few years have been very difficult for you. Lately though, there were so many little glimpses of things looking like they might just get better, but sadly, it didn't happen for you the way we all kept saying we hoped it would.
Your girls are beautiful. Amber is an amazing young woman who is strong, sweet and earnest. Alex is a sweet young girl who will grow into a woman as wonderful as her sister. I know your girls will be happy.
I hope you know it Kathy - I love you very much.
