In memory of

Kathleen Hazel McIlveen

February 6, 1921 -  October 2, 2016

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing in her sleep of Kathleen (Hazel) McIlveen on October 2, 2016. Predeceased by her husband, Glen Asquith (Bob) McIlveen, she is survived by her four children Carole, Robert (Barbara), Janice (James) and Douglas (Pauline); grandchildren Douglas, Bridget, Hilary, Adriane, Nicole (Adam), Lise, Renee, Melissa (Michael), Colin; and great-grandchildren Nolan, Clare, and Conor.
Born in Barnes, England in the county of Surrey, she was part of Great Britain's greatest generation. Like other brave Londoners, she carried on working despite the Blitz and the V-1 and V-2 bombings. During the war, she met and married a Canadian officer, Glen Asquith (Bob) McIlveen, a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery from Ontario. On July 21, 1946, she arrived in Bowmanville, Ontario as a British war bride. She left behind a war-torn country, her family, and rationing to start a new life in a province that was largely rural at the time. As a new Canadian, she and her husband raised four children and lived in various communities - Toronto, Niagara Falls, Guelph, Beaconsfield (Quebec) and Mississauga.
The family would like to thank the CCAC care workers in Mississauga for the home care she received for over ten years. We would also like to thank the staff at Wesburn Manor in Etobicoke for the care given to her in the last three months. Friends will gather at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga, Ontario for a Memorial Service on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 2:30 pm at If so desired, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society.

Janice, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. We will be thinking of you, Jim, your girls and your family during this very difficult time. Your Mom was very spunky, imagine coming to a new country as a war bride. What a wonderful and fulfilling life she had, so much of which to be proud. She will be greatly missed by her large family. May happy memories be with you always. Love and condolences. Sue and Roger
