In memory of

Katalin Mersich

August 1, 1932 -  February 2, 2023

MERSICH, Katalin (nee Nagy) of Szaszfa, Hungary

Katalin Nagy(b1932) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Extendicare Bayview in Toronto, her residence of the past six years.

Katalin was ready for this next step in life‘s journey: looking forward to be reunited with her adored husband, Bela, and the many dear relatives and friends who have gone before.

A heartfelt thanks to the staff at the long-term care residence for their kind and compassionate care, especially during these last 3 difficult years. And to her exceptional friends/ companions: Richard Fisher, Kati Bonnay, Valeria Marko, Valeria Toth, Joanna Michitsch , Ida Santha, who cared deeply for her, advocated for her, lifted her spirits, and provided interest to her days.

Katalin
Mersich’s legacy will live on through her donations to the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Toronto and her gift to the Hungarian church in her hometown of Szaszfa in Hungary.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is now in charge of the 133 acres of wetlands that Katalin and Bela owned. It remains a pristine and perfect home / migration resting area for wildlife, just north of Toronto - a place for all to benefit and enjoy.

Katalin will be remembered for her strength of character, independence, resourcefulness, hard work, chatty disposition and for her direct and honest opinions.

God Bless

What a beautiful life! I will always remember the gift of a beautiful pair of red leather
(of course!) shoes they blessed me with when I was a very young girl. I LOVED them, but they were several sizes too big when I got them, so I lovingly saved them in the box in my bedroom closet. I would bring them out now and then, hoping they fit so I could wear them. Eventually, I forget about them and when I next brought them out and tried them on, they were too small for me! I never got to wear the most beautiful red shoes. I was so sad, but I kept them for a long time anyway.
I will always remember her as the generous, loving woman she was.
