It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Karlos Kwok-On Lau on July 29, 2025. He was 75 years old.

Born on November 24, 1949, in Guangdong, China, Karlos immigrated to Canada when he was a young man and attended the University of Waterloo. He met Annie and built their life together in Toronto.

He was incredibly hardworking and worked for every penny he earned. He did not take anyone or anything for granted. He worked a variety of jobs as a student and built his career as a handyman.

Karlos is lovingly remembered by his wife, Annie; his daughters, Joanne and Vicki (Andrew); and his cherished grandson, Ethan. He was predeceased by his father, Lau Shui Lun, and his mother, Lam Yin.

Karlos found immense joy in simple pleasures and daily routines – finding the best deals grocery shopping, buying and sharing these deals with friends/family, enjoying a cup of coffee with cookies or a Chinese bun, watching TV, reading the Chinese newspaper, swimming and chatting with friends, tending to his backyard garden and any time spent video calling or seeing his grandson Ethan.

Anyone who has met him knows he was quick to smile and greet with a joke or attempt to connect in the other person’s native language. He was outgoing and made friends easily. He truly embodied one of his favourite mantras “don’t worry, be happy.”
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed. Please see below for details regarding the visitation and Celebration of Life. A lunch will follow (details to be shared at funeral home).
