In memory of

Karl Kristian Thomsen

January 26, 1936 -  October 5, 2023

Karl Kristian Thomsen
1936-2023

The family of Karl Kristian Thomsen is deeply saddened by his passing on October 5, 2023. He is dearly missed and well-loved by Mary, his wife of 60 years; his daughters Ingrid, Caroline (Sal), and May (Lance); and grandchildren Shawn (Lindsay), Ariel, Ellie, Annette, Collin, Marion, and Stuart.

Karl was born in Borglum, Denmark on January 26, 1936, to Anna and Peder Thomsen, and grew up on a farm. He learned English through a correspondence course and emigrated to Canada in his early twenties. Karl was a lifelong learner, which was something that he instilled in his children. He took night courses and explored several trades. He taught himself how to play the accordion, researched how to make home and car repairs, and later in life embraced technology. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened a convenience store.

Karl’s passion for driving started with a motorcycle and he was always ready for a spontaneous road trip. He loved being outdoors at the cottage or working in his vegetable garden. Karl always found the humour in things, enjoyed watching comedies, and would have a joke at the ready. He had a sweet tooth and liked his Danish pastries and cookies. Above all, he taught his children to be generous towards others.

Visitation will be held at Pine Hills Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, 416-267-8229) on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 4-8 p.m.
A Celebration of Karl’s life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 11 a.m. - 12 noon at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations can be to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Dearest Ingrid, Mary, Caroline, Sean and the rest of the family...

Steve and I are so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is never easy, as we are all aware.

I have fond memories of Karl playing host with Mary when I would sleep over with Ingrid at their family home. I also remember how much he loved driving!! Ingrid took over some of the driving in later years.
