In memory of

Karen Leigh Gillies

March 9, 1958 -  April 12, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Leigh Gillies announces her passing peacefully at home on Monday April 12th.

Survived by Don, her best friend and beloved husband of 11 years. Proud and loving mother of Christopher (Cheryl) and Lee (Nadine). Devoted grandmother (Nannie) to Ally and Breanna, dear daughter to Marion and Marvin (predeceased).

Lovingly remembered by her sister Tracy and brother Regan, sister-in law Laurie (Dave).

Karen’s courageous battle with cancer did not stop her from enjoying life to it’s fullest in recent years from trips to Portugal, Morocco, Grand Cayman and the USVI with good friends, and to her favourite place, Hawaii where she married her best friend on Ironwood Beach in 2014.

Karen will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her friends and colleagues who have provided unconditional love and support.

Heartfelt thanks to the oncology and palliative care teams at the Credit Valley Hospital.

A private family service will be held at The Simple Alternative Funeral Home on Friday April 16th at 11:00 a.m., but everyone is invited to view the service via live stream starting at 11:30 a.m.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date (to be determined).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Credit Valley Hospital.

Dear Don,

You must know how deeply saddened I was over your loss. I will miss her very much.

I could always rely on her whenever I needed help, whether with a project or some mundane chore that she was always so willing to help me with. I came to trust her judgment and wisdom as well and her advice was always so well thought out and helpful.

She was a great gal and I know our OSS lives will never be the same without her. I could never find a better and more caring friend.

She has left us with so many wonderful memories. I will cherish them forever.

In Deep Sorrow,

Ed

Don and family, very saddened by the news. Third time starting to write this and still can't find the right words. At least you were blessed to have found each other and enjoyed the all too short time together. Peace be with you. Gary and Patty.
