We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved father Mr. Kam Po Ip: Devoted husband for 52 years to Catherine; loving father to David ( Joanna ), and Dolly; and wonderful brother to Kam Tong ( Choy Ling ), Kam Ping, Kam Chi ( Gerda ), Tsoi Ching, Kam Cheong ( Doris ), and Kathy ( Mark ). Dad lived a fulfilling life and was dedicated to his family who meant the world to him.
Born in Hong Kong in 1938, Dad and his family relocated briefly to mainland China to escape the Japanese invasion in World War II. Upon returning to Hong Kong, Dad started school in Taipo and graduated high school at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School in 1959. After high school graduation, he worked for about two years at the Shen-Shui Courthouse as an administrative assistant. Dad always excelled in mathematics. He decided to further his studies in accounting in Melbourne, Australia in December of 1961. While studying full-time, Dad worked part-time as a waiter to support himself. Dad graduated from the Polytechnic College of Melbourne and obtained his accounting designation.
Dad had the option of staying in Australia and working as a chartered accountant. However, being the family man that he was and always keeping his family as the top priority, Dad made the career choice of returning to Hong Kong in December of 1964. Early in his career, Dad worked at Wong (Wong Shan Yan) and Associates Accounting Firm, specializing in Specialty Tariffs for trades with developing countries. He also worked at the Singer Company. Later on in his career, Dad joined the Revenue Department of the Hong Kong Government, managing a team of taxation investigators.
In addition to being an accomplished accountant and a family man, Dad loved to read and was a lover of nature and photography. He was a tidy and patient person and enjoyed structure and organization. Dad was a liberal but dedicated parent, who tried his best to provide the best for us.
Dad has left us with many happy memories and is now going to a happy, peaceful place.
To honour his wishes, a simple family and friends service will take place. Donations may be made to Cummer Lodge in Toronto in Dad’s memory. Please refer to the "Media" tab on this website under "Documents" for more instructions.
