With great sadness, the family of KIMIYE NONOMURA (née: Kado) announce that Kim passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
Kim was born in Vancouver, B.C., and moved to the Lethbridge, AB area in 1942. She married Kiyoshi in 1954 and they were happily married for 68 years. They moved to Burnaby, B.C. in 1966 and to the Greater Toronto Area in 1969 – first to Etobicoke and then to Brampton in 1999.
Kim will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her for her many wonderful qualities and will be dearly missed. Her family was always her number one priority, and she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Kim always had time for her children and grandchildren, and was instrumental in shaping the adults they have become.
Kim loved to travel with Kiyo, sister and best friend Kaz, and brother-in-law Tosh, and to share these experiences with family and friends. She was a passionate gardener and loved tending to her roses, flowers, and vegetables over the years. She was also a talented seamstress, and each of the grandchildren still has the baby blankets she lovingly made for them.
Kim was an exceptional baker and cook. Her sons remember the dozens of cookies, doughnuts, butterhorns, and other treats that filled the freezer each month when they were young – she jokingly claimed it was the only reason that the boys had any friends. Family and friends always looked forward to the amazing spread of Japanese and Chinese food that Kim prepared to welcome each New Year, a tradition carried on by the next generations.
Cherishing her memory and remembering her always are her sons Kevin (Denise), and Kent and her grandchildren Robert, David (Tracy), and Michael. She will be missed by her sisters Toshiko Tsukishima, Irene Tsukijima, and Kaz (Tosh) Kanashiro, and also by her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Kiyo, father Sueo, mother Masuko, brothers Keichi and Ko, sisters Michiko and Fumi Jasiukiewicz, and brothers-in-law Wesley Jasiukiewicz, Sumio Tsukishima and Eiji Tsukijima.
The family would like to thank the ACE and Dementia unit doctors, nurses, and staff at Brampton Civic Hospital for their compassionate care during Kim’s final weeks.
A private Celebration of Kim’s Life will be held at a later date in Lethbridge AB. In lieu of flowers or koden, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Perth County, the Alzheimer Society of Peel or to your favourite charity in Kim’s memory.
