Julius (Julijs) Zigurds Valuks passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024. Predeceased by his beloved wife Lilita in 2018, his sister Anna Dzidra Majorins in 2006, brother Raimonds Vidvuds Valuks during WW2 and his niece Inta Apse in 2023.
Julius was born on July 4, 1928 in Malta, Latvia. During WW2 the Valuks family was displaced and moved first to Germany, then to England and lastly to Canada in 1952. Julius’ first employer was International Nickel in Sudbury. Upon moving to Toronto Julius studied part time at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, graduating as a Certified Engineering Technician. He was employed by Rexnord Canada for 26 years and then Ingadale Industries.
Julius and Lilita were married in 1956. In their spare time they built a cottage where they spent their summer holidays and weekends. They also enjoyed travel to different countries in the Americas and Europe. They supported the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Hummingbird Centre and the Latvian Concert Society. Julius served many terms on the St. Andrews Latvian Church Council.
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Latvian Church and the Latvian Relief Society of Canada, Daugavas Vanagi.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 31 at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York, M2N 5Z5.
