My fond memories of her will always remain. She was the sister of my god mother Eliza . They spoke fluent Portuguese and I remember the laughter and precious times I shared. My aunt Jovita as I always called her, was particular with her dress code and also took great care of her diet too.
The wonderful memories will always remain.
No doubt she is enjoying God's Kingdom now.

There are many stories I can think of for my Grandma, but I would love to share how she was over the last couple of years. Grandma had an active mind and was really with it up until 95! I hope I can be like her at that age. She loved to read, watch her daily mass, say the rosary, loved food (especially bread and coffee). I remember if the red light was showing on our oven, she would always say to make sure we turn it off. If I was making her food, she would always ask to make sure I had eaten as well. She still offered to hem my clothes. Every morning when she woke up, she would give me a big smile and say “Meliiiiissa”. She was an admirable lady, and I will miss her dearly! We had a close relationship that I will never forget. Love you Grandma!

Julieta Fernandes was a close friend of our Parents, Gorgonio & Priscilla Lobo in Kampala, Uganda. We remember her fondly as 'Jovita', despite her name change.

Although not related, we called her 'Aunt'. As both our families were 'closely-knit' & our homes the stopping-off place for the to-ing & fro-ing between Entebbe & Kampala.

We looked forward to our school holidays when we spent a few days at her home in the City of Kampala. Likewise, her children, Thelma & Melvyn would come to stay with us in our sleepy town of Entebbe.

We still delight in knowing how this friendship has lasted & were happy to be reunited with her & her family in Toronto, Canada.

In 2019 (prior to the Pandemic), I was fortunate to have an opportunity to spend time with her. We shared some happy conversations reminiscing about our 'good old days in Uganda'.

She had me in laughter when she said & I quote: 'I knew you when you were in your 'Mummy's Tummy. It is perhaps another reason for the 'aunt' as sign of respect.

My memory of A. Jovita in my growing-up years was her 'hearty laugh' especially when my Dad recounted stories of unpleasant incidents he faced as President of the Goan Institute in Entebbe. After which, she would question his decision in accepting a second and even a third time, Presidency!

My siblings & I did not fail to notice how much she was revered by her husband U.
Thomas, who showed absolute regard for her as Matriarch of his family. She was also astute in her judgement of character.

Coincidentally, we both were avid readers & shared a liking for the same author 'Barbara Taylor Bradford',. We also enjoyed the soap opera television programme 'Young & Restless'. Her memory for names of actors & actresses on this show amazed me.

She lived with her family in Canada for many years. Although saddened by her demise, we are nevertheless certain they will receive her blessing from above and share it with everyone she knew.

We are grateful for Blessings of love & friendship that united us with A. Jovita & will continue to reinforce this bond of friendship with her family members.

May Her Soul Rest In Peace.
