In memory of

Julie Fung

September 26, 2020

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Julie Fung on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Humber River Hospital, aged 71 years. She leaves behind her husband Luqian and daughter Sabrina. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her mother Helen, brother Frederick, sister-in-law Carrie, niece Christina, and nephew Stanley. She grew up in Hong Kong and attended Maryknoll Convent School. She immigrated to Canada in the 1970s, and worked at the University of Toronto for decades.

Julie was an avid mahjong player, tai chi practitioner, choir singer, swimmer, and global traveller. She had “eagle eyes”, a cheerful attitude, and a love for ice cream, lobsters, oysters, and yin yang rice. Above all, she was loyal and dedicated to her family. Special thanks to her care team at Humber River Hospital.

Your mother was a great woman who was always happy. She will be missed by everyone who was blessed by her presence. I still remember her cheerful voice, and will continue to remember it as though it were yesterday. She will continue to watch over your family, hoping for the best, and wanting you all to be happy. My heart goes out to you.

Julie and I met by chance at Goodlife Fitness, I was drawn to her by her infectious laugh, smile and cheerful voice.  We played MahJong every week for many years, and she always wanted to improve her game.  She was interested in so many things. Julie admired her husband and was happy and grateful for his cooking and wisdom.  But the most important person was always Sabrina.  Sabrina was the apple of her eye, Julie was so proud of her accomplishments.

Julie will be missed greatly, I will forever cherish our friendship.

I am saddened to hear that Julie had died. Please accept my warmest sympathy. We used to go to gym and play mahjong together. She’s always cheerful and happy. I did not know that Julie went to MCS., same school in Hong Kong of mine. My love and thoughts are with her and family. I hope good memories can help ease the pain of this loss.
