Judith Beverley Amsterdam, known to most as Judy, also affectionately went by Ms. Judy, Jude and Joodles to those around her.
People naturally gravitated towards Judy’s light hearted, down to earth, kind and loving energy. She was warm, welcoming and firmly dedicated to her family and friends, people often came to her for advice or just to kvetch!
Daughter of the late Pearl and Moe Amsterdam, Sister to Libby Ben-Shalom and Elaine Amsterdam, beloved fun loving Aunt to Ayelet, Yinon, Ariel, Elitzur and Isaac, Partner to Gavin Harris and loving Mother to Daniel and Mallory Harris. Judy loved being a mother, it made her proud and it brought much happiness to her life. Married to Gavin for 40 years, she raised her children with him in a multigenerational home filled with love and positivity.
Halloween cake master, Chanukah organizer, exceptional regaler of stories, hockey mom, avid card player, neighbourhood cat rescuer, editor and co-conspirator, Judy’s sense of humour was with her everywhere she went and filled her home with constant laughter. Judy enjoyed working within school environments and communities. She was known to be able to command an entire gymnasium of children with just a look. Her colleagues admired her and students adored her.
Judy, it’s unimaginable that you are gone, your love and energy filled every room and we will hold onto you always. Judy passed from cancer surrounded by family and the dedicated Sunnybrook palliative care team.
