In memory of

Judy Amsterdam

November 23, 1951 -  October 27, 2021

Judith Beverley Amsterdam, known to most as Judy, also affectionately went by Ms. Judy, Jude and Joodles to those around her.
People naturally gravitated towards Judy’s light hearted, down to earth, kind and loving energy. She was warm, welcoming and firmly dedicated to her family and friends, people often came to her for advice or just to kvetch!

Daughter of the late Pearl and Moe Amsterdam, Sister to Libby Ben-Shalom and Elaine Amsterdam, beloved fun loving Aunt to Ayelet, Yinon, Ariel, Elitzur and Isaac, Partner to Gavin Harris and loving Mother to Daniel and Mallory Harris. Judy loved being a mother, it made her proud and it brought much happiness to her life. Married to Gavin for 40 years, she raised her children with him in a multigenerational home filled with love and positivity.

Halloween cake master, Chanukah organizer, exceptional regaler of stories, hockey mom, avid card player, neighbourhood cat rescuer, editor and co-conspirator, Judy’s sense of humour was with her everywhere she went and filled her home with constant laughter. Judy enjoyed working within school environments and communities. She was known to be able to command an entire gymnasium of children with just a look. Her colleagues admired her and students adored her.

Judy, it’s unimaginable that you are gone, your love and energy filled every room and we will hold onto you always. Judy passed from cancer surrounded by family and the dedicated Sunnybrook palliative care team.

Services will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Sunday October 31st at 10:30am located by the pool of reflection behind the main office. Shiva will be held at 218 Heath Street East on Monday to Saturday from 1-4pm & 7-9pm and Sunday from 10am-12pm.

In the brief time that Judy and I overlapped at Holy Blossom, we shared many laughs together. I will always remember Judy as a kind, gentle, and witty friend. Her memory is for blessing.

It is with shock and sadness to learn of Judy's passing.
She was as shining light and source of much laughter and joy.
There was a commradarie among us on the non-academic side of things. Working through the summers and making our own summer fun.
I will miss her and my thoughts are with her family during this time.

Dear Mallory and Family~
I was so saddened to learn of Judy's passing. We worked together for a number of years at York and she was my first contact with the school. She quickly became a great source of valued insight and, best of all, providing a great sense humor to help make the day that much better.
We shared stories of loving our Golden Retrievers and our secret guilty pleasure of watching 19 Kids and Counting.
Her love of her family and friends were always close to her and I know that you will all have that strength and love for ever more.
Thinking of you all.
Sending much love and support.

To Judy's family: we came to know Judy through Holy Blossom Temple, where she was always ready to help in any way she could. In the years just prior to her retirement, I worked closely with Judy on helping out with the High Holy Day honours and tried to take as much pressure from her as I could. We shared a lot of laughter and stories during those times. Elliott joins me in wishing only good memories to her family. Judy Malkin and Elliott Jacobson
