Sternbergh, Juanita Louise (Wink)

March 7, 1944-January 30, 2018

Juanita Louise ( Wink) Sternbergh died in the evening of Tuesday January 30, 2018 at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Born in York, PA, on March 7, 1944, she was the eldest daughter of George and C. Louise ( Foose) Wink, and a sister to Rebecca ( "Peggy") and Iris, both deceased.
Juanita was a long time member of the York Alliance Church, and grew up spending her summers at Summit Grove Camp in New Freedom. She graduated in 1962 from Red Lion High School. Juanita was the wife of Dexter Sternbergh, her spouse for 54 years, whom she met while working at the credit desk at Mailman's department store when she was 19 years old. Juanita was a devoted wife, exceptional mother, and enthusiastic grandmother to three treasured grandchildren, Anna, Max and Ruth.
While in York, Juanita was active in the Child Study Club of York, and the York Historical Society and Heritage Trust and volunteered at the Gates House and Plough Tavern sites. Later, in Lancaster, Juanita was the first woman Accountant at RCA.
In Ardmore PA, she served for years as an accountant at Bryn Mawr Hospital. In Toronto, she served for many years as CFO at Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, Women Alive, Unionville Alliance Church, Plan to Protect, Opportunity International, and Camino Global, as well as running her own accounting business, having earned an Accounting diploma at Seneca College.
Juanita was a lifelong volunteer, teaching Sunday School at The Peoples Church Toronto, serving as a board member of the North York Historical Society and as an historical interpreter at David Gibson House in Toronto, where you could often find her in period costume ( she was an accomplished amateur seamstress ), practicing and sharing her love of 19th century domestic history.
Juanita had an easy smile, a joyful laugh, and an inspiring attitude, right to the end, that was so refreshing to those who encountered her, that she was selected to appear in a fund-raising video for the hospital in which she received her cancer treatment from 2014 onward.
Along with her husband, Juanita is survived by her three children: Daniel Sternbergh and his husband Phil Fernandez of Palo Alto, California; Adam Sternbergh and his wife Julia may Jonas of Brooklyn NY, and Katy Weber and her husband Matthew Weber of Rosedale, NY. She will be dearly missed and celebrated, always.
A celebration of life service will be held at Davenhill Senior Living Community at 877 Yonge Street on Sunday March 3rd, 2018 at 3 P.M. Parking is available next-door at Canadian Tire. Davenhill is a short walk South from Rosedale subway station.
All who knew Juanita are invited to share remembrances, photos, stories, in person, or by email or mail, if you cannot attend. We treasure your loving thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Wonderful obituary. Never know you both came from York and she was an account by trade. We live in Carlisle and I do a great deal of accounting related work for Messiah College. Sorry for your loss of such a wonderful person.
