In memory of

趙薛瑞意夫人 Joyce Sui Yee Chu

October 7, 1931 -  September 10, 2019

It is with great sadness and emptiness that we announce the passing of Sui Yee Chu aka Joyce our mother.
She was an extremely loving mother, a devoted wife, a sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She made many selfless sacrifices but endured everything with dignity and strength.

She transitioned serenely & peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Tuesday September 10th at home, she was 88 years young.
She grew up in the coastal Province of Guangdong within a small town called Gujing on the southern part of China.

She survived the Japanese invasion during the war and endured many hardships

They moved to Hong Kong for a short time before immigrating to Canada to become a citizens on February 1959.
Compassionate, caring and being a humanitarian for those in need was her strength. Never to shy away from a fight for a just cause she was a force to be admired.

She was politically savvy and knew how to get things done...
- She had a high traffic Phoebe Street in front of Ogden Public School blocked off on one end for the children's safety
- With the school milk program in jeopardy she personally donated to keep it afloat
- Founder of Orde / Ogden Public School Chinese Parents Association
- She represented the Heritage Languages Advisory Committee for the Toronto Board of Education
- Instrumental Founder/Chair for the Parents Association for Chinese Heritage Language Programs.
- She rubbed shoulders with Politician’s and Business people of her time
As a natural born leader she was the Head and Director of several Women’s Groups and Societies

Our mother was a rock with an internal strength that was unmatched in every sense.
As a lifelong Seamstress she was somewhat of a Fashionista in her day.
Feisty at times to put you in your place but always diplomatic.
She loved to entertain and was extremely sociable, always with a happy smile

Her favourite dish was a nice hot savoury bowl of noodle soup!

Ultimately her Kidneys and Diabetic issues took a toll on her physical body but not her will.
Our mother lived a long a fruitful life, she gave more than what anyone of us can ask for.

She would have lived past 100 had her body agreed with her mind but she was destined to be in another place where love knows no bounds, where her colours are bright and brilliant, where joy and happiness surrounds all and where the beauty of flowers blossom into peace and serenity.

Truly and very deeply mother will be missed.
