In memory of

Joyce Lyn Audrey Toop

July 17, 1931 -  September 23, 2024

Joyce Lyn Audrey (Luxton) Toop, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 93. Born in Toronto on July 17, 1931, Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Hilda Luxton, and her brothers, Roy (Cliff) and George Luxton.

Joyce was the cherished wife of her late husband, Irwin Stanley Toop. After 64 years of marriage, they passed away within just four months of each other, a reflection of the profound connection they shared.

Joyce was a devoted mother to Miles Richard Toop and Catherine Allison (Walter) Broos, and she took great pride in her grandchildren: Aaron Brandon Keith Toop, Sarah Ashley (Joshua) Broos Montgomery, and Tiffany Alexandra Broos. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Adams (98), and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A woman of remarkable talent, Joyce modeled for Brides Magazine and worked at Northways (John Northway and Sons Co.) downtown Toronto as a window decorator and buyer, showcasing her exquisite sense of style. She later worked as a dental assistant until the birth of her daughter, after which she devoted her life to raising her family. She was known as a light in her workplace, sharing the gospel and her heart for the Lord with all she encountered. Joyce was a gifted vocalist and had many singing engagements at churches, weddings, and weekend retreats at Muskoka Bible Centre. She travelled and sang in The Gospel Light Trio and The Commissionaires.

Joyce’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She rarely missed church on Sunday mornings and evenings. A leader in her community, she hosted women’s Bible studies in her home. She regularly attended prayer meetings on Wednesday evenings, inspiring those around her with her devotion to the Lord and her desire to share God’s word.

Joyce had a passion for gardening and decorating, always creating cozy spaces filled with warmth and comfort. Her gift for hospitality shone through in her love for entertaining and hosting large gatherings. For over 40 years, Joyce treasured her summers at the family-built cottage on the Upper Rideau near Westport, Ontario. She forever cherished her childhood memories with her family at Bear Lake and told many stories of dancing till midnight in the “tin” house.

A hardworking and nurturing woman, Joyce loved her family immensely and was a source of strength for those around her. She outlived many of her closest friends but continued to be a cherished figure in the lives of her loved ones, embodying grace and resilience.

Joyce Lyn Audrey Toop leaves behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and generosity that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. She was a true blessing to her entire family and she will be deeply missed.

Your mom was a delight to be with and we loved her. Her sense of humour was so fun and we loved the discussions we had with her. She was a wonderful supporter of the church at St. Clair and she will be long remembered as a outstanding member of our church. Our condolences to you as a family and you will be in our prayers.

Joyce was such a joy and an inspiration. She always put Jesus first and lived a life that displayed Jesus in her actions and words. Joyce had a great voice and many times she would sing at St. Clair Evangelical Missionary Church. She was a shining light in a world that needs hope. She was a mentor to many people. My prayers are with the Toop family.

While we are deeply saddened to learn of the Home-Going of this radiant gift to us all - and our dear friend - Joyce Toop - we rejoice with her family and many friends in the certain knowledge of her welcome into the glories of her eternal home with the greeting - "Well Done - Good and Faithful Servant"! - Joyce's warmth of personality - her humor, her sense of class and style - her wonderful musical ability - her love for the ecclesia - and her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, lit up every room she entered - and she was loved by all who knew her. - Farewell dear friend - until we meet again! - Wes and Peggy

I played piano and sang with the "Gosplight Trio" along with Jean Hunt back in the 60's and 70's as well as the Commissionaires! Joyce was a dear friend and a great "Counsellor". In my darkest hours she was the one who could see I was struggling and counselled me on a desperate situation. But for that I don't know where I would be today! She could sense when someone needed guidance, help, understanding and love and I could talk to her about my situation where I could not with my family and/or friends! I always admire how beautiful she always looked, how calm she was in any situation (and we sure had our moments of "what do we do now" when we were singing out of town, etc. Some moments we could laugh about later (like when she thought at 8 months pregnant it would be OK for her to change her dress behind her car in a big parking lot up near Snug Harbour!!) Joyce was a very special lady and I will never forget her kindness, love and guidance!! We will meet again!!!
