In memory of

Joyce Dossal

July 22, 1926 -  September 11, 2023

Joyce Hilda Dossal (nee Rooke)
July 22, 1926 – September 11, 2023

Peacefully after a brief illness, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
Joyce is reunited with her beloved husband Pyar who predeceased her in 2014. She is survived by her loving daughters Linda Dossal and Carolyn Dossal, her adored and adoring grandchildren Adam Hicks, Madeleine Lapierre (Chris), Jennifer De Lio (Anthony) and Jonathan Hicks as well as dear great-grandchildren Jaxson Galan-De Lio and Colton De Lio. Deeply saddened by her passing are her sister Shirley Sandys and brother Gerald Rooke (Diana), both in England.

Joyce was a Leading Air Woman in the WAAF during WWII and was always proud of her contribution to the war effort. Post war, Joyce worked at Atlas Assurance Company in London where she met and married a handsome and charming actuarial student.

Pyar’s career eventually led them to settle in Toronto where they began a long and very happy life.

Joyce was an avid gardener and flower arranger and devoted many years to membership and ultimately leadership of the Milne House Garden Club.
She was rarely found without a needlework project or knitting needles in her hands and was an enthusiastic member of the Toronto Guild of Stitchery. Her beautiful needlework projects adorned her walls throughout her life.

Joyce struggled with the pain and disability of arthritis but, true to her British stoicism, she continued to enjoy her life, lovingly supported by Pyar. In their later years, the two were often to be found in their sunroom at Golfdale Road, doing the cryptic crossword together or discussing new projects for their beloved garden.

Joyce missed Pyar greatly after his passing but carried on and spent her later years avidly watching golf and tennis, as they always had, fuelled by Smarties.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Briton House who took great care of Joyce for the last few years.
We are grateful that she is at peace.

Visitation will be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Funeral Centre on September 18th from 4-8 pm. A short visitation at 10:30 am will be followed by a memorial service on September 19th, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception from 12-2 pm. The memorial will be live-streamed, and the link will be posted in the notice attached.
