Joyce Hazeline Depew; 12-24-1930 – 04-16-2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Joyce Depew, age 95, peacefully at home following an unfortunate fall for which she was unable to recover. Until quite recently, Joyce had remained relatively independent and had enjoyed good health for most of her life.
Joyce was born on December 24, 1930 in Simcoe, Ontario to Hazel and Douglas Hill. She was their youngest and only daughter with two older brothers Grant and Brock. She also spent some of her childhood in Cookstown, Ontario and later moved to Toronto, graduating from what is now known as R.H. King Academy in Scarborough. She later graduated from the Toronto East General School of Nursing as an R.N. in 1953.
Mom met our father and her lifelong best friend, the late Donald (Don) Depew, while in nursing school at a “Young People’s” dance at the local United Church. It was apparently love at first sight and they went on to marry in September 1953, raising 3 children together: Brenda (Andy), Brian (Heidi) and Lisa (Paul). She now has 5 grandchildren: Julia (Matthew), Joshua (Kary), Pamela (Lucas), Ryan and Adam as well as 2 great grandchildren: Olivia and Noah.
Mom and Dad enjoyed long and happy marriage of almost 65 years. They had many adventures together and loved to travel. In their later years they traveled to the Algarve Portugal yearly for 9 years straight. They were blessed with many friends and a loving family. Mom has lived on her own at Viva retirement residence in Pickering for the last 8 years and has been very happy there. We would like to extend our thanks to the many staff and friends at Viva for helping us all through this difficult time.
