So many memories of Aunty Joy. The bakery in Ballycastle, a trip to Carnlough in your van.
So special to have spent time with you in Toronto and then again in Cushendun.

You are a very amazing person whose generosity and kindness we will never forget.

Always in our thoughts although distance has kept us all apart.

Dearest Joy
You were so kind, wise and generous to me for so long. Such a good friend in times of trouble. I will miss you so much. I can hear your voice and your laugh just as clearly as if you were standing beside me now - I hope it will stay close to me all my days.
With all my love

I’ve also written this little memory down and wanted to share it in some way with you all, maybe if you are together after the service.

‘Ivan and Joy were over from Canada, visiting us in Ballycastle. I drove all three of us out to Murlough Bay. It was a glorious Glens day, the sun shining, the water bluer than the Mediterranean, with just a little breeze to keep us from getting too hot. Baron Fitt of Bell's Hill in the County of Down, better known as Gerry Fitt, one of Northern Ireland’s best-known politicians, happened to be staying in the little cottage at the end of the road and Uncle Ivan strolled over to say hello to him. The pair of them chatted away, with Uncle Ivan explaining to Gerry how he and his sister and brothers had spent summer holidays in the cottage – travelling all the way there from Ballycastle! – while Joy and I marvelled at Ivan’s ability to strike up a friendship with anyone anywhere. We walked on to the little beach and paddled in the water. I seem to remember falling in at one point and getting soaked -we laughed so much.

I spent many happy days with Joy over the years– and shared hard times too, but I think that day at Murlough, when all three of us were so happy in each other’s company, is one I will always remember. I have always imagined that, somewhere in the many rooms of the Kingdom of Heaven, there will be a small corner where people from Ballycastle will gather, share gossip and eat my mother’s shortbread. If there is, I hope Joy and Ivan have found their way there, are enjoying the craic and are maybe telling the story of our day at Murlough. ‘
