In memory of
Joshua Michael Lloyd King
November 23, 1984 -
February 21, 2023
Joshua Michael Lloyd King passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in his 38th year at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Josh fought a long and courageous campaign after suffering a massive stroke on July 29th 2022.
Outstanding husband, of 9 years, to the true love of his life Kelly (nee McLean), amazing father to Norman and pug dad to Lenny, predeceased by Gus, Bella and Puglsey. Loving son to Dr. Bob King and Cathy King (nee Morabito), brother to Nick King. Beloved grandson to Sally and the late Dr. Lloyd King, and the late Michael Morabito. Son-in-law to Marbeth McLean and the late Doug McLean and brother-in-law to Darcy and Meghan McLean. Caring and loving uncle to Amelia, Cooper and William McLean. He will be cherished and missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Josh will also be dearly missed by many friends that he made in North Bay, Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto and in his adventures across the globe.
Josh had been a Research Scientist at Environment and Climate Change Canada since 2014 after completing his PhD in Geography at the University of Waterloo. Josh had many interests and loves, with family being his priority. Josh travelled many places in this world but would always say that being a father was his greatest adventure. Norman (a.k.a. Peanut) had his heart. With his family, Josh enjoyed camping, playing Lego and giving hot snuggles. Outside of being a father, husband and son, Josh found enjoyment in brewing beer, cheering on the Raptors, playing video games, travelling to cold and remote places and getting to know people from all walks of life. Josh was passionate about the Arctic and contributing to research that would have lasting impacts for future generations.
Thank you to everyone over the last seven months who have reached out and supported Norm, Kelly and Josh in so many ways whether it was a phone call, a visit, a warm meal or a donation to the GoFundMe campaign. Your love and support did not go unnoticed.
Josh received exceptional care and support during his stay at Sunnybrook. Thank you to all the nursing and support staff, including Dr. Houman Khosravani and the Orange Team, Meghan McPoland, and Jennifer Mutrie. A special thank you to the incredible Palliative Care team led by Dr. Amy Nolen and Dr. Sarah Torabi for their compassion and guidance through this difficult journey. Sincerest gratitude to Tracy Tan and David Frake at Balance Physiotherapy and Zely Lee Boxer at Z Speech Pathology.
We will be celebrating Josh’s life on Saturday, March 11th at the Granite Brewery and Tied House (245 Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto, ON M4P 3B7 - Parking available directly underneath the brewery) from 2 p.m. onwards. Tributes will be held at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto (DSAT), the Sunnybrook Foundation, specifically the Palliative Care unit or to Norm’s education fund (cheques care of Kelly McLean-King).
If you have a special memory with Josh that you would like to share with Norm, please email king.jml@gmail.com. These memories will be shared with Norm for years to come.
