In memory of

Joseph Peter Grimaldi

November 21, 1928 -  January 19, 2021

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Peter Grimaldi on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the age of 92. Sadly missed by his beloved wife, Grace (nee Teresi). He will be deeply missed by his children Joanne (Brad), Rosemarie, Sal (Laura), AnnMarie (Dave) and his grandchildren Jennifer, Melanie, Danielle, Christina, Joseph, David, Brittney and Michael.

Joseph had a very successful career as a Sound Editor, winning many awards and commendations. He loved life and everyone loved him. He had many friends from the cottage which he built and cared for for 50 years, his winters in Florida as well as his local neighbours. His passion was his family, playing his organ and expanding his model train layout. His life was focused on the love he shared with Grace and their marriage of 65 years.

Due to COVID-19, a private family ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Canada.

Dear Grimaldi Family,

We’re so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad.

In the many thousands of hours I spent with the Grimaldis through my childhood, in the basement, the cottage, the car, at BelleVue Pathé, I was honestly always a little afraid of Mr. Grimaldi. Even as a child, though, I think I understood that he took his job as The Dad to mean that he should be serious, even a little gruff, though never angry or unkind. Sometimes, you’d catch him stifling a smile at our ridiculous conversations around the table, often while AnnMarie was driving it in a scandalous direction or pushing Sal’s buttons. But, when you did get to see him smile (in a conversation with an adult, mind you), it was warm and generous.

The last time we met in person was at my mother’s funeral in 2002. Mrs. & Mr. Grimaldi seemed so happy to see me, and that made me proud. They both loved to talk about the fine people you had all grown up to be, your wonderful families, their beautiful grandchildren. He had done his job as The Dad, so very well. And, since I wasn’t a dumb kid any longer, I got to have his beautiful smile directed at me.

Many fond memories. Take good care of each other.
John

Sal & Laura
and Family,

We have many lovely memories of Joe and I (Pamela) had the pleasure of working with him for a number of years. He took great care in his craft and was so well liked and respected within the audio industry. I know that he was also a great family man and will be dearly missed.

Our thoughts are with you all.

I was music editor for many of the films that Joe mixed through the years. Even now, decades after the fact, I'm still using the guidance and experience he gave me. He was an audio and musical genius and a consummate professional, and even under stress (of which there was considerable in our business), Joe was always a true Gentleman with a capital G. He was one of the few people I've met that made me a better person for having known him. Rest in peace, Joe.
