In memory of

Jose (Joe) Manuel Camara

March 16, 1949 -  October 30, 2022

Joe was born to Gilberta (Cabral) and Manuel Camara on March 16th, 1949 in Sao Miguel Acores in Portugal. He was the oldest of three. At the young age of 12 he left Sao Miguel and his family to travel by boat to mainland Portugal where he studied at Bom Jesus de Braga Seminary, in Braga until the age of 19. After graduating in 1968 he travelled on his own to meet his parents and siblings, Irene (Camara) Kivlichan (Robert) and Louis Camara (Rose) in Brampton, Ontario, Canada where they had already immigrated.

He worked at Northern Telecom as a supervisor for a while until he earned his real estate license in 1971. He married the love of his life, Lucy (Da Luz) Camara whom he met at the first real estate brokerage he worked for, Fernandes Real Estate. They married in July of 1974. Their first daughter, Jennifer (Camara) Rodrigues was born in 1976. Two years later they had their second daughter, Amy (Camara) De Frenza and also opened his own real estate company, Flower City Realty in downtown Brampton. In 1980, they had their last child, their son Jason Camara.

Joe was a pioneer in his field, working at several brokerages over his career. However, over the last 20 years, he worked side-by-side with his son at Re/Max Realty Services. He was a mentor, educator and leader who was respected and revered by everyone he encountered. In the 52 years of his career, he helped many people and gained many beautiful friends whom he cherished immensely. He was a social butterfly and found joy serving his community by serving his church and the Portuguese Community Centre for many years.

As much as he enjoyed his career, his greatest love was his family; his wife of more than 48 years, whom he adored, his three children, whom he was always proud of, their spouses, Manny Rodrigues (Jennifer), Tony De Frenza (Amy) and Elizabeth Camara (Jason), whom he treated and loved like his own and his six beautiful grandchildren, Olivia, Lucas, Nicholas, Alessandra, Anabelle and Rocco; they were the light of his life.

Joe is predeceased by his parents and leaves behind his two siblings. He was a caring uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. Although he suffered many health challenges since the age of 50, he never lost his great sense of humour or his eternal optimism. His positivity and joy for life was infectious and set an example that we all try to live up to.

He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and never forgotten by his family who will love and adore him until the end of time. His legacy will live on forever.

Dear Lucy, Jennifer, Amy and Jason. It is with sad heart that I heard of Joe's death. I have known Joe since he arrived in Canada, about 54 years ago, when we were still teenagers. Our lives took different turns but we never lost contact and I have lost, yet, another friend. My prayers are with you, Lucy and your family. May Joe Rest In Peace and be a Guardian Angel to you, your children and your grandchildren. God Bless you all and give you comfort through these so difficult times. Hugs. Fatima

Luis and I were extremely saddened to hear the news of his cousin Joe’s passing. Joe had always been an important part of the Medeiros family. He was very kind and gracious to Luis’ parents, always willing to offer assistance with anything they needed. He was also Godfather to David for his Confirmation. I was lucky enough to have had him for a boss at Realty World Flowercity working as his Admin Assistant. In fact, I remember him randomly offering me the job in my mother-in-law’s family room. We just happened to both be there at the same time that day. No interview, no nothing lol. He just lured me away from my other real estate company with his charm and wit. He could definitely be persuasive when he wanted to be lol. He was a great mentor to all who crossed paths with him and I witnessed first hand the care and patience he showed his clients as he helped them navigate important legal and financial matters. He always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude and a kind word for everyone. Joe, you were a force to be reckoned with. May you be in a better place seated next to our Maker. Our sincerest condolences to the family. xo

So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I remember him well through the church. He was a good friend to my parents Dimas and Yolanda Arruda. Joe was definitely an inspiration to many. An eternal optimist event after all of his health issues. May his family feel some comfort in knowing that Joe made a difference in so many peoples lives. God bless and may his soul Rest In Peace.
