In memory of

John Zaravinos

September 23, 1940 -  March 7, 2024

With profound sadness and a heavy heart, we announce the passing of John Zaravinos.
John, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 7 2024 in the
comfort of his own home. John was born in Athens, Greece on September 23, 1940 to Dimitrios and Vasiliki Zaravinos and was raised in Megalopoli (Perivolia), Greece.
John met the love of his life Helen in Megalopoli at the platia (town square). John took one glance at Helen and said “I want her as my wife”. Helen’s brother Giorgos Droulias arranged a meeting for the two of them. From that point on, John and Helen spent 52 beautiful years together. A marriage of true love and appreciation for one another.
John was a very happy, loving and helpful person to everyone. He loved to work as a Master Electrician and enjoyed the many conversations with family, colleagues and friends at the coffee shop. You could find John many summer days attending to his garden. John loved his sports and his team was Olympiakos in Greece and the Montreal Canadians in Canada. John will be remembered and missed by his wife, Helen and his youngest son Denis (Danny) Zaravinos and his partner Ashley. John will join the heavens with his late eldest son Demitrios Zaravinos (1973-2015) and also his brother Sarantis (Sam) Zaravinos (1937-2017). He will also be cherished by his sister-in-law Evgenia Zaravinos, his Brother-in-law Louie and sister-in-law PanagiotaTriandos who share many wonderful memories throughout the years. John leaves behind many nephews and nieces, friends and family from Canada and Greece. John was loved by many and they valued him and recognized his kindness and gentle loving manner.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2024 from 4pm-8pm at York Cemetery (160 Beecroft Rd, Toronto) Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 13, 2024 10:30am at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church (1385 Warden Ave). Burial will follow at York Cemetery after the service.

To the Zaravinos family,

We are so saddened to hear about Theo John's passing. He was a wonderful person; always helpful, knowledgeable and kind. He was a great friend to my parents and we will always remember him for that. May he rest in peace and may his memory be eternal.

To my good friend Yanni,

From a young age we grow up in the village going to the same school, playing in the same neighborhood with all our friends. We play soccer, you were playing with the Olymbiakos team (red jersey) and I was playing with the Panathinaikos (green jersey) the two teams in the village. We fought a lot during the game and after the game, after that we were friends again like nothing happened, we were friends ever since after that. Ever since you’ve been gone, not a lot of us left. I hope and wish you see those who are now departed, you have some good company… Sarando Zeravinos, Trifana and Ilia Tsopela, Nico Kouyia, Petro Govervno, Foti Tsopela, Kosta Tsionopoulo, Yanni Tsopela, Kosta & Ilia Vasilopoulo, Vasili Anastopoulo and Sotiri Anastopolou. Those days everyone had a nickname, yours was Maro, you got that one at the school theatre and most of us would call you by your nickname.

Well my friend, I miss you a lot, I hope you’re in a better place with all our departed friends.

Always your friend, Γιώργος
