John (Yiannis) Nicholas Voudouris
March 29, 1930-November 4, 2024

With broken hearts we announce the death of our Father, Grandfather and Father-in-Law on November 4, 2024. John was born into great hardship and poverty. He was a proud Lesbian, being born in Mytilene and raised by Refugees from Asia Minor. He nearly starved to death during WWII, suffered through the Greek Civil War, and served as an Officer in the Greek Armed Forces in the Korean War. He met the love of his life Eleni in Athens and came to the New World in the 1950s where they both obtained Master’s Degrees, his being an MBA from the University of Missouri. They were married in Chicago and took a Greyhound bus back to Missouri on their wedding night. They immigrated to Canada in 1960 and thrived, realizing great accomplishments and immense joy, especially in their children, Nicholas and Alexander, daughter-in-law Jennifer and grandchildren Justin and Julian.

John eventually became a Vice-President at Coca-Cola Canada, and closed his professional career as a Professor at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai, UAE. He was extremely well read and versed in politics and history and embraced technology throughout his life. He loved to travel and perhaps his most meaningful trips were with his sons to Korea in 2018 and to Greece with Jennifer and Alex in 2014, and Justin, Julian and Alex in 2022, where he bridged his past to our present and future.

Sadly but lovingly, he spent ten years caring for Eleni during her battle with Alzheimer’s. Never expecting to live to the age of 94, he was proud to hear his grandkids call him a “Beast” that could not be killed, but unfortunately, the Candle Has Been Snuffed.

Dearest Nick and Alex
We are so sad by the loss of your wonderful father. Nono was such a special person. While he lived a wonderful life full of travel and adventure, his true gift was how he contributed so wonderfully to the lives of those around him. He was always so generous and genuine in his love for his family and friends. We are all better for having had him in our lives. While we will miss him, we will never forget him and the impact he had on all of us. Our love and hugs to the entire family.

November 4, 2024 is the end of an "era" for me. Thios Yiannis was very special , and unique! I have only nice memories to remember, interesting discussions, caring for each other and feeling we are a family! He was my favorite uncle and the person who together with thia Eleni gave me the opportunity to study in a Canadian University, learn and do some important things in my life. This was a valuable experience and will never been forgotten by me. I cannot still believe it that he will not come to Greece again, I was thinking that he could manage this time since he was always very energetic, strong and a fighter! I hope he knew how special he was for me! I feel fortunate that we had the chance to travel to Olympia the two of us during his last trip to Greece in 2023 and share our thoughts , enjoy and have fun! He will be greatly missed, but he will be always in our heart !

Both thios Yiannis and thia Eleni, have changed my life! If it was not them, most probably I would not study chemistry and do what I have done in my professional life.
I have learnt a lot from them. Additionally, thios Yiannis was my mom's closest brother, and my mon was feeling that there was a close relative who was thinking and caring for her, which was true. 🙏I feel that I have lost a part of me.......
