In memory of
John Roland Anderson
February 14, 1937 -
August 22, 2024
Rollie passed away peacefully on August 22nd, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born in Flatlands, New Brunswick, his life journey started as a talented hockey player earning him a full scholarship at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. In his four years with the Saints, his team played in three NCAA championships, and he established life-long friendships with his teammates Buster and Gary. His 1960/61 team was inducted to the SLU Athletic Hall of Fame. Fond memories of his playing days were often shared and recounted with family and friends. After graduation, he embarked on a long and successful career in the insurance industry spanning over three decades. Here he met Monika (d. 2006) his wife of 41 years. Together they raised three daughters Angie (Glenn), Laurie (Pascal), and Julie (Philipp), in Don Mills, home for over 50 years. Becoming a grandpa was a source of pure joy, doting on his two granddaughters Lindsay and Jenny. In retirement he enjoyed trips to Europe, and many visits back to New Brunswick to visit with family and friends. The simple things in life meant the most to him: the love for his family, sharing a good meal and conversation, an interesting novel and whistling a tune. Despite his health challenges late in life, his spirit always shone through. His sense of humour, generous nature and love will be cherished always.
Cremation was carried out for private family interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Toronto, per Rollie’s wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday November 15th, 1pm, at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre 375 Mt Pleasant Rd, Toronto, ON M4T 2V8. Visitation at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Canada.
