Peacefully at home on January 2, 2025, in his 87th year. Born in England, John was known for his quick wit, love of a good IPA and properly cooked steak, and was forever on the hunt to snag the last shrimp. Most of John's working life was in the travel industry. An enthusiastic raconteur, he loved immersing others in compelling tales of his worldly travels, especially his years with Tauck Tours. He left pieces of his heart in places as diverse as Parsons Green Fulham, Royal Hawaiian Hotel and Hanalei Plantation in Hawaii, Guangzhou, and his beloved islands in Leonard Lake, Muskoka. His last fifteen years of work were in the Tourism faculty at Seneca College, where he made lifelong friends of many wonderful people. In retirement, he enjoyed keeping his mind sharp with crosswords and spending time with his grandchildren and granddogs, Frank and Ruby. He is survived by his wife Susan, beloved children Kathryn (Alie) and Sean (Katherine), much loved grandchildren, Andrew, Reid, Jordan, Everett and Emily, and several English and South African cousins, notably Ian Burton, Tony Cleary, Rex Glanville and their siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Cremation has taken place. Details of a celebration of life to be held in the spring will be provided at a later date to family and friends.
