In memory of

John (Ian) Thomas

April 26, 1935 -  August 8, 2022

John (Ian) Thomas was born on April 26th, 1935, the only child of Catherine (Kay) and Robert (Bert) Thomas.

Kay and Bert emigrated from Scotland to start a new life and a family in Canada.

Ian had a lifelong pride in his Celtic heritage and was always happy to talk about his Clan's moto (hold fast) or the Tartan colours (black and gold) or point out the Isle of Sky on a map, home of his parents clan Macleod.

Ian grew up in his small home at 67 Floyd avenue in East York and spent his summers playing around and even swimming in the Don River.

In the 1950's Ian went to East York Collegiate where he met and began to date Loretta Henthorn. He also played for his schools football team winning championships with them in 51 and again as a senior in 53.

On July 6th 1957 he married Loretta and in 1960 began his own family with the birth of his daughter, Bonnie, and three years later his son John was born.

In the early 90's Ian reconnected with his friends from his high school football team. That connection helped him to cope with losing his father, mother and his wife in a few short years.

Allthough his health was declining he greatly enjoyed planning events with his football buddies throughout his retirement.

Remember Ian well from EYCI football days. 70 years ago, a long time. Vance.
