In memory of

John Harold Gildemeester

February 28, 1932 -  September 20, 2017

John “Jack” Harold Gildemeester

Jack lived life with a passion that few could match. He loved the outdoors, especially the many years he spent at Ruth Lake. He was always willing to lend a helping hand which created many long lasting friendships.
Born in Vancouver in 1932 to Herman and Margery Gildemeester he grew up in North Toronto along with his older siblings Joan (Manuel) and Robert.
He taught plumbing for over 25 years at George Brown College before retiring up north to operate Ruth Haven Cottages.
Jack passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 20th, 2017.
He will be missed dearly by his wife Judy, son Robert, daughter Laura (Alex), nieces Connie and Janet and nephew Robert. Along with his best friend Gord he will be lovingly remembered by his many friends.
The family is greatly appreciative to all the medical staff and friends who provided care and support over the last few years.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or the North York General Hospital Foundation.
Please join the family at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance) on Sunday, October 1, 2017 after 3:30pm, followed by a memorial service in the chapel at 4 pm. For online condolences, please visit www.etouch.ca

We got to know Jack when our son Steven worked for him in the summers during his high school and college years. He was a great man, honest, intelligent and very knowledgeable on any subject you cared to discuss, especially politics, which was fine because we shared the same political views! Sorry we won't be able to attend the memorial but please know we are thinking of you all. We feel privileged and honoured to call him a friend.

We understand Jack was able to spend some time up here at the lake this past summer....how wonderful!
With all of his property on the lake he provided many pleasurable holidays for vacationers ...also gave several of his neighbours that chance to locate permanently on the lake. Thanks Jack! We love the lake as you did!
Judy, Laura, and Robert please accept our condolences at this time of loss.....your memories of a husband and father will always be with you.
With sympathy, Tom & Marlene

My heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to Laura, Robert, Judy and the extended Gildemeester family. My life was enriched by Jack in so many ways; I'm grateful for the time I had with him - at the Lake, in North Bay, in London, traveling together in the Tacoma. It's been years since I last saw or spoke to Jack, but I think about him often with great fondness. I remember so many little things: his love for the stock market, chasing Cooch with a shovel on the six -wheeler, how he caught flies with the vacuum cleaner, listening to Sinatra during dinner, how he'd shake your hand, how he cooked cauliflower upside-down in the microwave! Jack was convinced that he knew the "right" way to do everything; and it's funny how often I caught myself saying "Jack taught me this." Thanks for the many wonderful memories my friend, you will be greatly missed.

I was sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was a warm, caring person. I enjoyed the every 5 year gatherings of his birthday which he shared with Gordon Thompson. Many friends attended. He will be very much missed.
