With sad hearts we announce the passing of an extraordinary man, John Ganias on February 27, 2025 at age 89. He left us peacefully and is now reunited with his beloved, predeceased wife, Eleni.
He is cherished and will be greatly missed by his children Joana (Joe) and son George. His grandchildren Matthew (Tiffany), Paul (Rebecca) and Laura (Kyle) will treasure the encouragement and support he gave them. There are no words to describe the pride he had in them. His legacy will be that his grandchildren instill what they have learned from him in his great grandchildren Marcus, Jacob, Brooks, Eleni and the new soon to be Baby. He is also survived by his sister Eleni and his brother Antonios (Toula).
John was from a beautiful fishing town in Kassandria, Greece and obtained his College Technology Certificate in the Air Force. With a brilliant mind he did not see his future in a fishing town. With one suitcase and $25.00, in his pocket, he left his parents and his siblings and immigrated to Canada to fulfill his dreams of a better life. With a humble and hardworking character, he found a one bedroom flat and worked as a dishwasher to get at least one free meal a day. As he learned English and met people that helped guide him to technological jobs, his dreams started to come true. He ended his career as a Nuclear Technologist at Atomic Energy of Canada. His accomplishments were highly recognised and rewarded. Known as "The Captain" by his peers. They were a team at work and enjoyed beers after work. John truly loved dancing, fun times with family and friends but we can say he is the only man we knew that looked forward to Mondays!!! His work was his passion; always ready, pen in hand to solve a problem.
A special thank you to all the loving "Kouklas" at Extendicare Mississauga where John lived the last few years. The love and support John received has not gone unnoticed.
In Memory of John and in Lieu of flowers please send donations to Alzheimers Society, in order to help find ways to keep all minds sharp in the future.
