In memory of

John Fialka

May 21, 1931 -  November 2, 2023

JOHN FRANK FIALKA

May 21st, 1931 - Nov. 2nd, 2023.

John passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, with his family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Geri (née Eldridge), their two sons, Blair (Deanna) and Brent (Shunya), as well as their grandchildren, Brandon, Laurence and Chrissy and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Francis and by his siblings, Helen, Gladys, Mary and Bill.

A kind, quiet, gentle man, who loved a good joke and was a great storyteller, John instilled in his sons and those around him the importance of hard work, perseverance, patience, honesty, kindness and having a sense of humor.

From an early age John loved anything to do with being outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and boating, and was able to enjoy all of these things with his family at their cottage on Lake Kushog. He passed on this love of the outdoors and his appreciation of nature to his sons and grandchildren.

In his teens and early twenties, John worked in the logging and construction industry in British Columbia. When he returned to Oshawa, he met and fell in love with his wife, Geri, who was working at The Royal Bank. Four years later they were married in December of 1958. He went on to work in the automotive business for the next several decades, retiring at 72.

He will be forever missed and always in our hearts.

I had a visit with Uncle Jack (John) a few weeks ago and at 92 he still looked great. I have many fond memories of Uncle Jack, Aunt Geri, Brent and Blair at their cottage and their home in Oshawa. Sending lots of love and hugs to my Great Aunt and cousins and your families. Love you all very much. Xoxo

Dear Geri and family - I am so sad that I didn't know about John's passing in November. I DO remember him as a gentle soul with an equally gentle sense of humour. I am glad he exited from his cherished home with his beloved at his side. Remembering you all with great fondness. You all played an important and well loved chapter in my life. Thank you John: Four Winds on your next adventure.❤️
