In memory of
John Edward Beales
April 16, 1945 -
October 18, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce his sudden and tragic passing in his 78th year, on October 18th, 2022 in Oakville. Beloved husband and soulmate of Kelly (née Margaret Kelly Stewart); dear father of sons Cody (Penny) and Ashley (Sarah); and devoted Poppa of Henry, all of Toronto. We are heartbroken.
Born in Hammersmith, West London, John was the youngest son of the late Frank and Winifred Beales. Treasured brother of Marie Bishop (Harold, deceased) and the late Colin (Valerie), and dear uncle of David, Michael, Robert, Adam and Ken and their families in England, Australia, Ottawa and Waterdown. Cherished brother-in-law of Stanley Stewart (Eileen) and their sons Allan and Andrew of Cobourg.
John’s extensive and successful commercial real estate career began in 1972 with Ontario Housing Corp. and, later, High Point Management Services Ltd. He then joined Marathon Realty Company Ltd and over 18 years, established himself as a respected and esteemed real estate executive, business leader and mentor within the industry, culminating in the role of Executive Vice President. Additional senior management positions followed as Vice President and General Manager of Manulife Financial’s Real Estate Division, President and CEO of British Columbia Buildings Corp., and Managing Director of AIG Japan’s Real Estate Operations.
Retiring in 2008, John, alongside Kelly, his bride of 54 years, remained active. He enjoyed a spirited game of golf as a member of Oakville G.C., as well as the club’s many social activities. An avid skier, when asked why he skied with such abandon, he’d reply “it would be boring if I didn’t.” Ever a loyal England supporter, he looked forward to cheering on the squad at this year’s World Cup. He was an intrepid world traveler and road-tripper. He also relished any opportunity to don formal attire. A connoisseur of silk-lined scarves, he found the perfect specimen on a recent trip to France after years of searching. His enjoyment of lively debate made him a popular member of The Probus Club of Oakville, where scintillating conversations would often last for hours. His intellectual curiosity led him to be a voracious reader and an engaging storyteller.
Devoted to his family and his many friends from far and wide, John will be lovingly remembered for his kind, compassionate nature, generosity and wit.
Flowers are gratefully declined, although donations in his name to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Following a private interment, the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (service to begin at 2:00 p.m.) on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, Ontario.
