In Loving Memory

John Carter (89)
April 22, 1931 - October 8, 2020

On April 22, 1931 John was born to Andrew and Sarah, dairy farmers from the Southwest of Scotland. He was the eldest of six children - Sheena, Andrew, Margaret, Sadie and Anne. John attended Borgue Junior School and the Kirkcudbrights Academy. John emigrated to Canada in 1957. He joined Remingtion Rand for 10 years until starting his own successful office equipment business in 1968. He was a board member of the Canadian Office Machine Dealers Association for twelve years, serving one term as President. He retired at the age of sixty four.

John enjoyed learning and was a keen historian. He loved to play badminton and golf and was active in the local community. He started the Mowat Junior Badminton Club where he coached many local kids in the sport. John was also a hockey coach for many years with the West Hill Hockey Association. He was a loyal Toronto Maple Leaf fan and season ticket holder for many years. John was a member at Whitevale Golf Club for over 40 years, playing golf two to three times a week up until his passing. He served on the Board of Directors several times over the years.

John married Edna Jones on June 21, 1958. They had three children John (Linda) Phil (Roberta) and Lynn (Jim). He had five grandsons Michael (Jessica), Robert, Douglas, RJ, and Mark and two great granddaughters Mia and Lilah.

He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him. His wishes were that his friends and family join together in a Celebration of his life which will take place when we can safely come together again.

John will be missed very much. During my time at Whitevale, John was a fixture in the golfing scene. He was a founding father of the scarps program which continues onward. Golf at Whitevale will not be the same.

We spoke often by phone in recent years. John had a great sense of humor and was always very positive in every discussion.
A man who will be missed.
