It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Barlas on April 5, 2022 at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Georgia for 53 years, and loving father to Joanna (Ted) and Michael (Agnes), and proud and adoring Papou to Roark, Trent, John (Jasiu) and Julia.

John was born in Astros, Greece and grew up with his 9 brothers and sisters. He immigrated to Canada at the young age of 17, following his older brothers. He resided first in Guelph and then Toronto. He was a successful businessman, first partnering with his brother in Nick’s Sports Shop on Yonge Street and later as owner of both Olympic Sports and Barlas Sports on the Danforth. John was a devoted family man to his wife, children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters. He was always happiest when surrounded by family. He was a quiet and kind man, and was loved and admired by all who knew him.

A private family funeral service for John has been held at York Funeral Centre. The Barlas family wishes to communicate their deepest gratitude for your ongoing support during this difficult time.
