JOHN “ARTHUR” LYMER

With broken hearts, we announce Arthur passed peacefully at home on December 30, 2018 at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by the love of his life Audrey Lymer (2010). Art leaves behind his cherished children Steve (and Gloria), Gail (and Dave Wilson), Gregg (and Janice), Julie (and Mike Babcock) his treasured grandchildren, Jamie, Daniel, Kyle, Carlie, Kurtis, Nicholas, Mitchel, Evan, Bailey and Taylor and his beloved great grandson, Preston.

Arthur started his career in the British Merchant Navy. Upon his arrival in Canada, he soon joined the Toronto Police Force where he served for 40+ years. Arthur was proudly elected and served as President of the Toronto Police Association, was a Board Member of the Toronto Police Pension Fund and stood for many other police boards. He was a man of Honour, Service and Respect whose presence and stature is unforgettable.

At home he was a loving and caring father and devoted husband. Always ready with a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours, there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. As a gifted ambassador of good will, our home was always open for anyone in need.

His calming presence, fun-natured personality and mischievous sense of humour were the foundation for his practical jokes and magic tricks. He always had a trick up his sleeve, a twinkle in his eye and if there was an opportunity for a prank, he’d take it every time and we loved him for it.

We have lost a great man, our Dad, our Pappa, our Hero and we couldn’t be more proud of the man that he was.

In Art’s honour, friends and all who knew him are invited to the PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 2:00-2:30 pm with a Celebration of Life at 2:30 pm.

Celebrate Art’s life in your own way, and if so inclined, raise a glass of your favourite drink in his memory. In lieu of flowers or donations, we would love to see you step up and commit an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a less fortunate soul in his honour and carry his legacy forward.
