In memory of

John Adam Ernst

December 9, 1936 -  January 24, 2024

John Ernst passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, at the age of 87, at Sunnybrook Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit. He will be deeply missed by his partner, Rosalind Fortier, his beloved dog, Harry, and his children, Kevin (Connie), Janine, Larry (Roma), David, Christine (Lawrence), and Jill (Chris). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Robert, Danielle, Emma, Stephanie, Jonah, Philip, Lily, Malcolm, Alice, and Evan.

John was a lifelong salesman with a successful career in commercial real estate spanning more than 50 years. He was always happy to find and share a good deal. A lover of travel, he enjoyed vacations down south and touring Europe. In his later years, John and Rosalind made Florida their winter home. John enjoyed playing golf and loved recounting the story of his hole-in-one. On weekend afternoons, you could find John watching golf or the Blue Jays and napping, although he would deny the napping.

Throughout his life, John owned various cottages and boats, and enjoyed time on the lake fishing, barbequing, and relaxing with a cold beer. His porkchop recipe really is world famous! Over his 87 years, John shared many amazing stories, and he would often surprise you with one you had never heard before. We will miss that the most.

Thank you to the wonderful teams at Sunnybrook Hospital - Nephrology and Palliative Care. Please consider donating to John’s favourite charity, CNIB www.cnib.ca, to support their guide dog program. There will be a celebration of life later this year.

I’m thinking of the family at this sad time.
My memories of John are mostly of how tolerant he was of Jill and many of us using his house as a Friday party location! Most of the time we tried (thought) we where being sneaky and Jill’s parents didn’t know lol.
His tolerance and patience was impressive.
Sending my condolences to the family.
RIP
