In memory of

Johannes Verner Jensen

November 14, 1932 -  April 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johannes Verner Jensen on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Avril, his daughter Rachael and her partner Geoff. Predeceased by his youngest daughter Karen in 2022. He will also be fondly remembered by family in Denmark and England.

Johannes moved to Canada in 1955 from Denmark, where he was one of 9 children raised on a farm. That is where he developed his strong work ethic and love for being outdoors. He moved to Toronto where he met Avril, and they married in 1971. They moved to North York in 1978 where they raised their 2 girls.

Following his retirement from the City of Toronto maintenance department, he continued to live an active life and kept himself busy. He loved his garden and spent time outside in the good weather taking care of it. He liked to walk in the neighbourhood to get some exercise, and he would stop and chat with the neighbours as he went by. You could regularly find him enjoying a McDonald’s coffee while doing the daily word search puzzle.

We will remember him, with much love, and forever be thankful for a long life well lived. We are comforted to know that he has gone to heaven where his daughter Karen will be waiting for him.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Danish Lutheran Church of Toronto at 72 Finch Avenue West, North York, Ontario, M2N 2H4 on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

In Johannes’s memory, donations to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) or the Lymphedema Association of Ontario would be sincerely appreciated.

It was lovely meeting you when I came to stay. We had a lovely Easter dinner and I could see how much you enjoyed your garden.
You are now with Karen and you can look after each other.
God bless
