HAKKAKU, Joe
(November 21, 1927- April 21, 2022)

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Joe on April 21 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 95th year. He was predeceased by Kiyo (Takeuchi) in 2012, his loving wife of 62 years. Joe was the dearly loved father of Joanne (Joel) and David (Eva). Joe was the last of his generation of the Hakkaku-Takeuchi family. He will be missed by his nephews and nieces: Bobby, Dennis (Carol), Geri, Norm (Marion), Bob (Linda), Ken (Rosemary), and Cindy (Greg), and many other relatives and friends. Joe will be forever remembered for his gentle nature and sense of humour. He was the owner of Woodgreen Cleaners in Toronto for many years, and he enjoyed his daily chats with customers and the other local small business owners. Joe also enjoyed spending time in his home garden. After retirement, Joe and Kiyo took up ballroom dancing where they made many new friends. As per his wishes cremation will take place. A celebration of Joe’s life will be planned in the future. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, (South of Taunton Road and off of Dryden Blvd, 905-579-6787). The family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff of The Village at Taunton Mills and Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Donations to Durham Region Hospice Whitby (www.durhamregionhospice.ca) will be gratefully accepted.
